Redbox have claimed a multitude of medals and awards over a brief succession of impressive vintages, not bad for a recent starter. Pericoota is a gentle Shiraz wine offering complexity, harmony and supportive oak, drinking beautifully while young, with the capacity to age gracefully.

Philip Shaw was twice International Wine and Spirit Competition's Winemaker of Year. Following a career as chief at Rosemount and Southcorp, Shaw struggled to determine the most favourable terroir in Australia until he accidentally caught sight of the undulating countryside whilst flying over Orange in New South Wales. Shiraz from Orange differs to Australia's warmer regional styles. Reminiscent of a Rhone Valley, Orange Shiraz displays distinct bright spice with a fine pepper character revealing the vineyard's cooler, elevated origins.

A core of resplendent Hunter Valley Semillon with a slightly smaller portion of Orange grown fruit, assembled into a tightly integrated, stylish white of soft textures and crisp refreshing fruit. Pepper Tree is through and through, a Hunter Valley operation which postulates that grapes grown ouside of their locale should be explored. So what could be better than the elegance and finesse of Hunter Valley Semillon matched with a vibrantly aromatic and exhileratingly flavoured component of Sauvignon Blanc, picked off the splendid climes of the New South Wales highlands.

As vines in the emerging Snowy Ranges Tumbarumba district of New South Wales come of age, Penfolds can stray outside their jurisdictions in South Australia to acquire outstanding quality harvests of estate grown fruit for the construction of a generously flavoured and tastefully oaked Chardonnay. A beguiling and elegant wine, grapefruit characters define a citrus acid core, structural and textural, juicy with lemon pith phenolics providing great mouthfeel and length of flavour. Bin 311 offers profound varietal definition and seamless integration.

When Maurice O'Shea bought the Rosehill property with the support of the McWilliam family in 1946, he was looking for a similar site to that of Mt Pleasant. What he found was a parcel of rich, volcanic loam, idyllic soils which he planted to quality rootstock. Rosehill endures as an articulate and engaging expression of the Hunter Valley style. A beautifully structured Shiraz, showing excellent fruit to oak balance, fine tannins and a persistent, savoury finish, a timeless confirmation that O'Shea got his site selection pretty right.

To this day, Mount Pleasant continues to preserve the heritage of labels which played a role in the evolution of Australian wine. Slightly bolder in palate structure than it's regional siblings, Philip is the classic style of Hunter Valley Shiraz, a name that's been relied upon for decades. An affable wine, without excessive tannin or alcohol, exhibiting the complexity and inimitable charm of the Hunter. Generous and smooth, articulating earth and spice, dominated by masculine fruit characters. Every release guarantees a splendid Philip, a Shiraz with a tradition of excellence.

From two priceless blocks of Shiraz, some of the oldest productive vines in the world, a mere ten hectares of gnarled old veterans which yield a precious harvest of tiny, parched berries. Old Hill established 1880 and Old Paddock planted by Mount Pleasant patriarch Maurice O’Shea in 1921. Only ever vintaged in the finest years, fruit is treated to a traditional open top ferment and fifteen months maturation in a high proportion of new French oak barriques. A brooding, complex, multi dimensional Shiraz, brimming with personality and steeped in Hunter Valley history.

Most of the Pinot Noir grown in Australia can trace their lineage back to a single block of clone MV6 Mothervine, directly in front of the Mount Pleasant wineworks. A mix of whole bunches and stemmed grapes are all selectively hand picked and cold soaked over several days for a wild indigenous yeast ferment, followed by a press into a selection of seasoned and new French oak puncheons for malolactic and ten months maturation. Perfumed of violets, redolent and ripe, a beautifully structured style of gentle fruit tannins, sassafras, sen sen and spice.

Maurice O'Shea Shiraz is made from vines over a hundred and twenty years of age, planted by the estate's original proprietor, Charles King. A smaller portion is sourced from eighty years old rootstock on the adjoining Old Paddock Vineyard, planted by legendary winemaker Maurice O'Shea, who recognised the special characteristics and longevity of Hunter Valley wines. One of the nation's great wines, Maurice O'Shea once outscored Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace to be the highest rating Shiraz in the Halliday Wine Companion.

Outstanding Langtons Classification. The locals around the Lovedale property say that the sandy soils are so poor, that even the rabbits have to bring a tucker box just to survive! The lean and mean terroir is elemental to the long lived, fine boned style. Lovedale has claimed no fewer than 150 gold medals and 70 trophies throughout its illustrious history. An enduring and timeless effort of elegance and grace, Lovedale stands as the quintessential expression of Hunter Valley Semillon, one of Australia's great contributions to the international atlas of wine.

Leontine O'Shea was intrumental in the establishment of Mount Pleasant wines, she sent her son Maurice to France for an education in viticulture right at the outbreak of World War I, acquiring his first Hunter Valley vineyard in 1921. Hand picked bunches of clone I10V5 Chardonnay are pressed into a selection of seasoned and new French oak puncheons for a wild, indigenous yeast ferment and nine months maturation. An intensely articulate Chardonnay of melon and peach, ripe fig and bakers brioche opulence, a lingering palate of persistence and flavour.

Indentifiably Hunter Valley Shiraz from a number of well sheltered, higher altitude paddocks under the lee of Brokenback ranges. Fruit is destemmed into traditional open top fermenters for a fortnight's vinification, pressed into a mix of seasoned and new larger format French oak barrels and aged for fifteen months. A subtley structured style of elegant dark licorice fruit characters, seasoned by cinnamon and varietal black pepper, its silky mouthfeel, balance and length are supported by soft velvety tannins and framed by a delicacy of gentle nutmeg, carob oak.

McWilliams retain some of the Hunter Valley's and Margaret River's finest sites. The estate has made fortuitous use of their widely dispersed vineyard assets to isolate the perfect parcels of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc for an east meets west, classically styled dry white. The team have collated the pick of their West Australian fruit, steely and piquant grapes with crunchy green characters, passionfruit and lime. Delivered to the estate's wineworks at Pokolbin and assembled with some of the Hunter Valley's best Semillon, into a tightly knit, vigorous fruit forward white.

Hunter Valley Semillon is one of Australia's great contributions to the world of wine. The grapes at harvest are characterised by an ideal pH and perfect acidity. The completed wines exhibit handsome colour and a bright bouquet before a superb palate with excellent depth and great length of flavour. Every year, a limited quantity of Elizabeth Semillon is reserved for extended ageing in perfect conditions under the McWilliam cellars. Upon release the wine shows all the classic characters of Hunter Valley Semillon, beautiful honey flavours and golden toastyness.

Elizabeth is a classic Hunter Valley white which has established itself as one of Australia's benchmark Semillon. Named in commemoration of the first ever visit to Australia by a reigning monarch in 1954, Elizabeth has claimed over fifty trophies and multi gold throughout it's long and illustrious history. Originally released in 1967 under the label Hunter Riesling, Elizabeth today stands as a praiseworthy and approachable example of the uniquely Hunter Valley Semillon style.

Mount Pleasant patriarch Maurice O'Shea was on a search for the best site in Hunter Valley to plant white wine varietals when he settled on the Love family farm in 1946. There are eight unique acres at Lovedale, which yield a prominently fruity and floral style of Semillon. Hand picked throughout the chill of early morning, destemmed and gently pressed to retain the purest free run juices for a fortnight of vinification. An elegant yet articulate palate, defined by pristine Semillon fruit characters, complexed by citrus and honeysuckle, lemongrass and lime.

Lock & Key is a reference to ancestors who were brought to New South Wales as convicts aboard Australia's second fleet. A generously proportioned Pinot Chardonnay, the first sparkling wine to be made from fruit grown to the blossoming Hilltops region. Moppity Vineyard's original plantings are nearing forty years of age, some of the oldest stock in southern New South Wales. These mature, low yielding vines don't deliver much fruit but the precious grapes are wonderfully concentrated and produce the most remarkable sparkling wine.

Moppity are all about good wine from good fruit, selection of site is paramount and uncompromising standards of viticulture are essential. Lock & Key have embarrassed some pretty big names at conspicuous national wine show competitions, establishing Hilltops as the rising star growing appellation for Australian Shiraz. A rich, totally mouth filling wine with a deep, dark colour that's characteristic of Hilltops Shiraz. The palate is intense and concentrated, with loads of ripe dark berry, pepper and spiced cherry plum flavours.

Lock & Key have placed Hilltops firmly on the map with their fresh and dry, fragrant articulation of Riesling. Viticulturally, the region can be summarised as Barossa meets the Grampians, translating into wines of power and concentration, enhanced by great elegance and finesse. Moppity Vineyards have claimed some of the most coveted accolades at significant wine competitions nationally and overseas.
