Coriole was first developed by Geoffrey Kay, a distant relative of the Amery Vineyard Kays. Dr Hugh Lloyd GP sewed the vines which produce Mary Kathleen during a period when the fashion was to plant in contours around the local Seaview highlands. Named after the estate's matriarch, Mary Kathleen is crafted from three small blocks, originally planted in the 1960s. Perennially lauded and famously received, Mary Kathleen is generously mouthfilling with sweet fruit, earthy regional hints and complex spice.

Excellent Langtons Classification. Hugh Lloyd founded Coriole in 1967, his eponymously labelled flagship Shiraz is harvested off a single estate vineyard which yields tiny berries of the greatest intensity. Established 1919 by by the dauntless and seminal Geoffrey Kay, it is one of Australia's grand old vineyards, the wizzened old vines were originally planted in curiously winding arcs around the slopes and undulations of the property, presenting a spectacular panorama of a marvelous old vineyard.

Coriole is one of McLaren Vale's most eminent, artisanal estates. Consecutive vintages of Coriole Shiraz have claimed a remarkable back to back San Francisco Double Gold. Exclusively estate grown, the majority of vines are some forty years of age. Coriole know from Shiraz, having grown the varietal since 1919 and rating Langtons Classification for the estate flagship Lloyd Reserve. Coriole is sylistically strong, showing exceptional concentration of flavour, elegantly lined by gentle tannins and supported by judicious oak.

Chenin Blanc has been Coriole's flagship white since 1982, a pure varietal wine that couldn't be any fresher. Beautifully aromatic, it has great fruit concentration and shows an outstanding ability to age, highly suited to the moderately warmer climes of Coriole's vineyard at McLaren Vale. Lively, spirited tropical fruit characters are jumping out of the bottle, so get those flatheads frying, forget the serious analysis and just enjoy a crisp, clean bottle of fun.

The stuff of legends, who is there in Australia who has never heard of Cockfighter's Ghost? Originally crafted from Shiraz grown to a small block of ancient Hunter Valley vines, the Cockfighter's range are still made at the historic Glen Elgin wineworks, established 1895. Harvests of the finest Shiraz grapes, exhibiting vibrant spiced plum flavours and lined by juicy tannins, grown to good vineyards in McLaren Vale, have been set aside for vinification into the deeply captivating Cockfighter's Ghost.

Langhorne Creek can lay claim to the finest Cabernet Sauvignon. Vines are planted to sites which are rich in mineral and organic alluvial soils, nourished every year by annual floods. The ripening grapes are infused by the perfumes and chewy, gummy flavours of ubiquitous eucalypts, which line the shores of River Bremer. Cockfighter's Ghost found the ideal site, one that would yield harvests of the most exemplary Cabernet. An intense wine, brimming with blackcurrant and dark cherry flavours, fragrantly seasoned by a gentle frame of sweet French oak.

From their base at the old Hardy's Siegersdorf winery, deeply rooted in the heart of the Barossa, Cockatoo Ridge understands the philosophy of good fruit-driven sparkling burgundy. A decidedly juicy Cuvee, delivering complexity and heightened flavours of chocolate and berries, softened by soothing notes of creamy vanillan and a jujube-like chewyness, all brought together by a refreshing grapey acidity. Cockatoo Ridge is headquartered in the Barossa Valley on the principal road between the two main Barossa towns of Tanunda and Nuriootpa. This high profile site was once the old Hardy's Siegersdorf winery, built in 1930. Cockatoo Ridge NV is blended between two or three years harvest to provide consistency, reliability and a rounded flavour. An internationally recognizable Aussie Sparkler, it carries a trademark pink hue which delivers a broad palate, flavoursome and fruit driven. Anyone who's enjoyed the plum and apricot hued Cockatoo Ridge Sparkling knows just how good these guys are at bubbly. They're a formidable player at sparklers that look and taste gorgeous, and they're also a cinch at the premium end of the market. Cuvee Eleanora draws grapes from the august inventory of estate vineyards, the winemakers have turned out small parcels of generously flavoured grapes and created an exciting wine that fuses the holy trinity of Chardonnay with Pinot Meunier, as dominated by the masculinity of Pinot Noir.

A mostly Barossa wine fashioned at an ancient wineworks that was once Hardy's Siegersdorf. The remarkably approachable Cockatoo Ridge has seamless wood and fruit balance that seems to call for another glassful! Rich and soft, an equitable arrangement between two of the most compatible noble red varietals.

The Mount Benson region has supplied fruit to many of Australia's celebrated wineries, it has also been the source of Shiraz for some of the most memorable vintages. Less than an hour's drive away lies Coonawarra, both regions share similarities but Mount Benson is cooler and the ripening season is longer. The remarkable quality of cool ripened Shiraz, inspired one of Coonawarra's pioneer winemaking families, to plant vines at Mount Benson, achieving a fragrantly spiced red of sound structure, concentrated fruit and amazing palate length.

A luxury Chardonnay crafted at one of the Mclaren Vale's oldest operating wineries. Sent to a high selection of new French oak for a term of extended age, candidate barrels are shortlisted after a year's oak maturation, returned to rest for another year before a serious sampling to determine the final cut. Only ever made in exceptional vintage years, from fruit grown to the old Cabernet vines on Churinga Vineyard just north of Watervale. These dry grown, gnarled old veterans yield the most superlative Cabernet Sauvignon in all Valley Clare. The harvest of this elite block is treated to a spell of extra ripening to further concentrate the intensity of flavour. Medical practitioners are conspicuously over represented statistically amongst the roll call of Australia's boutique wineries and grand, baronial winemaking estates. Is it all about the quest for a healthy mind and healthy body, or is it something rather more indulgent that our physicians are practising? Clearly not a depraved effort by any means, Bittersweet Symphony is a poised and gracious Cabernet wine, brimming with Clare Valley elegance, endowed with fragrant perfumes, layers of clean berry fruit and sleek, cultivated tannins.

Light Pass was one of the first Barossa precincts to be planted to vine. A single Grenache vineyard remains from earliest settlement, still yielding the most precious fruit, it is likely the oldest productive planting of Grenache in the world. Marco Cirillo personally manages each and every vine on this invaluable block, his specialty is Grenache and he maintains a close watch over his priceless old plantings. Much of what he picks off the vine is destined for the mighty Torbreck, he retains a small amount from each vintage to release under his own label.

Chris Ringland lives to grow harvests of peerless quality fruit and make tiny amounts of the most memorable wine. Ringland has worked at the eminent Rockford in Barossa, as well as for distinguished estates in Spain, Italy and America. Parcels of fruit grown to vines between twenty and sixty years of age are vinified into the entry level Ebenezer Shiraz.

Chateau Reynella is the birthplace of McLaren Vale Shiraz, today it is headquarters of Australia's most eminent winemaker. The original site, established by John Reynell in 1838, was the first commercial vineyard in South Australia. It remains productive to this day, yielding fruit which is processed at the original wineworks. The most exceptional parcels available to the Hardy winemaking team, those which can best represent the Chateau Reynella style, are vinified and assembled into a rich bold Shiraz of profound intensity, exquisite balance and refined silky tannins.

The site which was destined to become South Australia's first winemaking estate was planted to vines just south of the Onkaparinga River, at the northwest corner of Panalatinga and Reynell Roads. Within ten years, John Reynell became the first to export South Australian red wine. His business grew, as Chateau Reynella won over palates throughout the Empire. As his operations flourished and local businesses started up, more workers were attracted to the area and settled down, the beginnings of McLaren Vale. Significantly, one of Reynell's star employees was Thomas Hardy of Hardy Wines.

South Australia's founding winery, the headquarters of Hardy Wines, Chateau Reynella is one of our nation's oldest cellars. Vinified from the most precious parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon available to Hardy, traditionally crafted to old world techniques, employing antique basket presses and open fermenters to keep the history alive and create wines which merit perennial critical acclaim. A highly perfumed construct of McLaren Vale Cabernet, its judicious measure of spiced French vanilla oak complements the fruit richness and lingers on the memorable finish.

A mostly Shiraz Cuvee sourced from six of the Melton's best dry grown, old vine blocks. Charlie was one of the first to recognize the value and tradition of the Barossa's old vineyard Shiraz, Cabernet and Grenache. At a time when others were pulling out some wonderful old rootstock to plant more fashionable varieties, Charlie was convincing farmers to keep their historic vineyards. He belongs to a small group of dedicated vignerons who fought to retain the viticultural heritage of Barossa Valley. Two years in oak, followed by liqueur dosage tirage and a further four years on lees.
