Soul Growers source fruit across the Barossa Valley floor, out to the high country of eastern Eden Valley ranges, from vineyards which are living history. Seppeltsfield and Tanunda, Krondorf and Langmeil Roads, Kalimna and Nuriootpa all make contributions. The work is completely manual, traditional techniques with minimal handling. The sacred cépage of Shiraz, Mourvedre and Grenache, has always been an essential tradition of Barossa winemaking, assembling the fruit of some glorious old vines into a seamless experience of heady perfumes, succulent fruit and gently undulating tannins.

A great, understated treasure of Australian viticulture is the softly spoken bequeath of ancient Barossa vineyard Mataro. Much of the priceless old rootstock was brought over by the first waves of settlers, an incalculable endowment which continues to keep on giving, generation after generation. Soul Growers grew up amongst venerable old vineyards such as these, practised and versed in the arcane art of encouraging the fruit to sing as a pure, personable wine. Lithely spiced, elegantly structured, voluptuously fleshed with the mouth watering succulence of opaque olive and black bramble fruits.

The vineyards of Barossa are blessed by a confluence of terroir and clime which form one of the world's most salubrious wine regions. The warmth of its growing season is cooled by the westerlies off Gulf St Vincent, stimulating vines to fully ripen grapes to the max. Sons of Eden source parcels of Shiraz from smaller sites in Barossa and Eden Valleys, hand chosen for their intensity and exquisite ripeness, enthused by Zephyrus, god of the west wind, to develop alluring plum, pepper and currant aromatics, opaque berry flavours and stealthy tannins.

The ancient Romans made no secret that their success was due to a merciless use of power. In furtherance of their aim to sire generations of ruthless warriors and entrepreneurs, they taught their youth the myth of twins who established a city state. Remus was the sophisticated one and Romulus was a brute. Romulus slayed his gentler brother and gave his name to a great empire. Sons of Eden offer both, Remus of Eden Valley, elegant and refined, or the rich and powerful Romulus of Barossa, siblings and adversaries, destined to an eternal rivalry for your favour.

A collaboration between one of Australia's most intrepid, artisanal boutique winemakers and skilled contract viticulturalists. Simon Cowham became intimate with Eden Valley's most exquisite sites during a tour of duty at Yalumba. He is retained by the most prestigious wineries and manages the finest Barossa vineyards. Cowham has assembled choice parcels of old vines fruit, from precious blocks over fifty years of age, grown to salubrious sites on the Eden Valley ranges and hamlet of Moculta, for a more refined style of Shiraz, alluringly perfumed, structured and statuesque.

A unique but decidedly Aussie cépage of Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, fortified by the inclusion of Barossa Tempranillo. Len Pumpa was a grower of Prussian descent, he persevered throughout the lean years of Australian viticulture, at a time when table wines were unfashionable and grape growing was an unviable labour of love. The wonderful endowment of grand old vineyards now managed by Sons of Eden, are due in large part to the selfless toil of Pumpa and his devotion to the vine.

Corey Ryan is one of the nation's most intrepid, artisanal winemakers, a specialist at small batch editions, he is called upon by some of the most eminent brands to craft limited releases of the most memorable vintages in Barossa and Eden Valleys Shiraz. A compilation of fruit from the Marschall Family vineyards in the Tanunda and Ebenezer precincts of Barossa Valley. The rich iron soils of Ebenezer contribute sound structure, palate weight and length, the sandy terroirs of Tanunda bring exhilarating freshness and bright aromatic lift.

The topical old vines Barossa cépage of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourverdre, fashioned to a style which would have warmed the hearts of the earliest Barossa settlers. The dominant component of Grenache is picked off an exceptionally low yielding property at Light Pass, originally planted by the Kennedy family in the 1960s. Leo Joe Kennedy husbanded these precious old vines for decades, he knew each planting by name and reserved the pick of fruit for inclusion into many of the Barossa's most memorable vintages.

From vines over forty years of age, grown to an elite site at Springton, supported by a parcel of fruit, picked off a bespoke vineyard, higher up the elevated aspects of Valley Eden. It was early German settlers who found a new home for the Riesling grape on the chilly contours of Eden, the terroir and clime being so similar to the challenging slopes along rivers Mosel and Rhine. A winsome perfume of kaffir leaf and bickford lime, followed by a provocative palate of pristine citrus zest flavours, the Riesling of choice to accompany dover sole or the finest sushi.

The temperate climes of Valley Eden are cooled by easterly gully winds, which ensure a long slow ripening and complete development of varietal characters in the grapes. A harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon from the warmer northern parts of the Valley, planted to auspicious red soils over limestone, is vinified alongside fruit from a cooler Eden Valley site, coalescing into a cornucopia of brambleberry and dulcetly perfumed blue fruit flavours. Only ever made in the most outstanding vintage years, barely more than a hundred dozen of Eurus were produced.

Some Young Punks believe that awesome wine is a powerful aid to creativity. The truth is that the wines so far have almost made themselves. The best fruit always does. But even the best fruit won't jump into a crusher by itself, so Punks help out a little in that respect. This beautiful tradeoff leaves plenty of time to talk and drink and then talk some more. And when it's time, they'll bottle it. Presto. Oh Sqiuddy, you've got just gorgeous legs, are they truly all yours? She's all cherries and cedarwood, raspberries and wild game, rhubarb and forest floor, cherry stones and kirsch. Squeeze me.

We blame the booze. The whiff and the swill did us in and all that was left to do was to make more. In many ways the wines that weren’t worth the pull on the cork caused this as much as the wines that we will never have the pleasure of decorking again. From the original Pulp Fiction novel, there's no time like the present to dress up and get down. When there's no time to think, we move quickly and unconsciously towards the things we really like. As the hours of carouse unravel, like so much unnecessary clothing, you'll happily find yourself enjoying it more, and more and more!

Conceptually, an adaptation of the pulp novel Sin on Wheels, realized through an equitable coupling of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Fruit is harvested off fully mature vines, crushed into fermenters and treated to maceration for the optimal extraction of colour and tannins. A course of vinification on skins and pressing into a selection of new and seasoned French oak barriques, for the completion of malolactic and term of maturation. This is Passion, a monster bigger than the three of us that leads us to soapbox, even to grandstand and sometimes pass out on the couch.

The ethos is simple, to create charismatic wines that are true to what Some Young Punks think wine is about. Inspired by images as bright and as intense as the wines, Some Young Punks draw inspiration from low brow literature of the pulp fiction era. Each wine, each vintage and each label is a moment that will never come again, a winemaker should only ever promise to be consistently good, not just consistent. Each time Punks make a wine it may be the last, if it isn't worthy of being the last then it will not wear Roller Skates or be dressed in Some Young name.

Monsters is sourced from exceptional vineyards, parcels are whole bunch pressed and settled for a long cool ferment to wild and cultured yeasts, finished into an extremely limited release of a few hundred dozen. The most exquisite acidity, a crunch like royal gala apple, Riesling that lingers on a length of thistle and cool green beans, ultimately a joy alongside the most fragrant Al Fresco fare, perfect for the vegans and vegetarian. Not many wines come with instructions, Some Young Punks make the assumption that you'll know just what to do when Monsters Attack.

A pure Mourvedre wine from fruit grown to good McLaren Vale sites, parcels are vinified for two or three weeks on skins before being pressed to French oak barriques for malolactic ferment and fourteen months maturation. Earthy bouquets, cherries and plum, a tad spice, cinammon, pepper and sangria. A frolic of toothsome dark berries on the animated palate, strawberry and black currant, refreshed by light and exhilarating acids. A complex wine with full integration between vibrant fruit and subdued treacle oak, immediately ready to enjoy and immensely suited to good food.

A compliation of the most outstanding parcels Wrattonbully Merlot, sourced off the best blocks established by the Smith and Hooper families, trained from the ground up to be exceptional sites, whence careful management yields a superior harvest of Merlot. The Smith & Hooper philosophy demands the terroir be allowed to speak for itself and it does. The auspicious climes provide ideal ripening conditions, while rich Terra rossa soils over limestone forces the vines to struggle for survival, ultimately producing a wine of intensity and finesse.

The term Terra rossa means red earth, a rich, free draining soil that is considered by many as the viticultural equivalent of discovering gold. Beneath the strata of red earth at Wrattonbully sits a layer of ancient limestone, a winegrower's dream as it allows free drainage of water, yet ensures vine roots stay close to the surface, putting natural stress on the vine and limiting its vigor and yield. An attractive wine upon release and destined to develop complexity, just perfect alongside crispy skinned pork belly. In sticky sauce of course.

Wrattonbully is blessed by some of the most desirable winegrowing terrains in Australia. Smith & Hooper are sourced entirely from two Wrattonbully estate vineyards, adjacent properties which have long been owned and operated by the Smith and Hooper families. These are premium red wines from exceptional sites where the philosophy is to let the terroir speak for itself, and it does. The elements of soil and climate are so exceptional, that they elevate the noble cepage of Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon into a profound wine of distinction and finesse.

Skillogalee is Celtic for a sort of gruel commonly fed to prisoners. When John Horrocks finally made it back to Penwortham after his trek through the Flinders ranges on Afghan camels, he gave the creek nearby the name Skillogalee in memory of the scant provisions which sustained the expedition. Skillogalee makes wine in a small but modern facility, which crushes only around 250 tonnes each vintage, affording the team a unique opportunity to hand make discrete quantities of individually carefully crafted, small batch vintages.

Skillogalee is blessed every year with harvests of the Clare Valley's finest Traminer, a bounty of the most outstanding quality fruit, which the dedicated team handcrafts into vintages of exquisite small batch wines. Skillogalee means classically structured Gewurztraminer, solidly built, aromatic and spicey with notes of hazel and honeysuckle, balanced between drying minerality and floral fruits. Shiraz grapes in the Adelaide Hills ripen slowly and evenly resulting in spicey, intense expressions in the fruit. Shaw + Smith is a star performer, sourced from the carefully managed warmer sub-area of Macclesfield which provides structure and richness. The cooler climes of Balhannah yield a truly exciting new wave Shiraz with loads of clean pepper, spiceyness, concentration and palate weight to match. Pinot Noir is the most temperamental of wine grape varieties and remains the ultimate challenge for many makers. Shaw + Smith have accepted the challenge, albeit in a highly exacting, small batch way. Site selection, the right clonal mix, miniscule yields and fastidious vineyard management are essential to success. A single vineyard wine from vines planted at a density of 2780 per hectare, to a select mixture of Burgundy's highly regarded 777 clone, as well as MV6, the backbone to many of Australia's finest editions of Pinot Noir.

M3 Chardonnay is sourced exclusively from a single site, the Shaw+Smith M3 property at Woodside, named after the three partners in the vineyard, brothers Michael and Matthew Hill Smith, along with cousin Martin Shaw. M3 is a major refinement in styling, a serious attempt to produce an exceptional Chardonnay with the capacity to age gracefully. A sophisticated, barrel fermented wine with pure fruit character and restrained oak, exhibiting great elegance and exquisite length. A must for all enthusiasts of stately white wine.

Sourced exclusively from Shaw + Smith's picturesque Lenswood property on Adelaide Hills, established 1999, a great amount of work on the ground has significantly enhanced the virtues of a truly amazing Chardonnay vineyard. Hand picked grapes are whole bunch pressed into a high proportion of new 500 Litres French oak puncheons for a rich course of barrel ferments and term of maturation on gross sedimentery lees. An exquisite, fine boned Chardonnay in new world Burgundian styling, so highly articulate of an exceptional vineyard site.

Shaw & Smith make nothing but the best, exemplars exhibiting the finest balance and most exquisite elegance, always offering greater palate weight, character and charm. A low yielding vineyard at Balhannah is at the heart of Shaw & Smith, yielding the most exceptional harvest, year in and year out. Inimitably Adelaide Hills, enhanced by the rich flavours and luxuriant tannins of pampered vines. An intensely currant flavoured rendition of Shiraz, supported by pliant, licorice tannins and seasoned by curls of fragrant tradewind spice.

A profound construct of noble red varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc drive the palate, tempered by the forward drinking Malbec and plum juicyness of Merlot. The story dates back to a deluge upon the Sevenhill vineyards in 1974. Winemaker emeritus Brother John May was not convinced that the crop was up to standard, so he blended all the grapes together.
