The legend begins in New Orleans, where the Bulleit family emigrated from France in the 1700s. The Buffalo Trace whiskyworks were established circa 1800 in Franklin County along Kentucky River, at a place where herds of buffalo would cut a ford in the days before the iron horse. The oldest continuously operating Distillery in America, granted special license during Prohibition to make Whiskey for medicinal purposes, Buffalo Trace have claimed more significant international awards than any other Distillery in the world. Bowmore Distillery, one of the oldest in Scotland has stood on the shores of Loch Indaal, on the Hebridean Island of Islay, since 1779.
