Reilly's are a highly esteemed Clare Valley operation with a history that dates back to early settlement. While it's not quite the complete limerick, there once was a man named Reilly, who cobbled and made wine on the sly. Mr Reilly's descendants still own and operate the grounds, initially treading grapes and bottling small amounts for family and friends. The quality of the family Ardill's limited editions created its own demand and Reilly Wines were born. Two years French oak, a powerful Shiraz of immense concentration and dizzying levels of alcohol.

Clare Valley Shiraz are known for their elegance, refinement and grace. Reilly's aim to produce low volumes of exactingly crafted wines, picked off the finest estate vineyards. An old fashioned basket pressed Shiraz, from hand picked grapes grown to the eminent 1919 Block at Leasingham. Epitaph has been fashioned to traditional vinification techniques, treated to extended ferments for optimal uptake of tannin and fruit, gently basket pressed and sent to the luxury of the finest French oak for an extravagant twenty seven months maturation.

Valley Clare yields a distinct style of Cabernet Sauvignon, characterized by sweet dark berry flavours, regional mintyness and rolling velvet tannins. Reilly's know Clare Valley very well, highly selective in their choice of terroir, they have set aside harvests from their most precious blocks, hand picked grapes off dry grown vines, open fermented and basket pressed, matured twenty two months in the best French oak. A rich, full bodied Cabernet, layered with intense dark berry characters, carob chocolate and mints, over a length of astonishingly fine tannins, an endless, lingering finish.

Gratefully Grenache driven, delicately open fermented and gently basket pressed, vinified exclusively from fruit grown to vines planted in 1919 by a returned serviceman, who'd been granted the property as part of an ANZAC resettlement scheme. Being bushvines, they grow low to the ground and are untrellissed. Grapes are all hand picked, as modern harvesters cannot collect the fruit, ensuring inclusion of nothing but the highest quality berries.

The Reilly's philosophy is to produce low volumes of characterful, hand made wines. Clare Valley Cabernet is picked off closely husbanded vineyards at optimal ripeness to be given a good old fashioned vinification and hand plunging in open vats. The moniker may sound a bit bonkers but the Barking Mads are extremely well made wines, very enjoyable in their early years, they offer the quality of fruit and vigor of tannin to richly reward those with patience, but why wait? Redman's Coonawarra are still made by the Redman brothers from fruit grown to the original family parcels established in 1908. The association began circa 1901 when Bill Redman at the tender age of fourteen, arrived in South Australia to work amongst the vines. He quickly formed an affiliation with the area and six years later encouraged the rest of his family to join him. Grown to some of the best sites on Coonawarra's Terra rosa, this well appointed wine offers commodius fruit flavours, subdued oak and the most hospitable tannins.

A traditionaly crafted red wine, made from grapes grown to hand managed vines a half century of age, planted to rich, red Terra rossa soils. One of the nation's most enduring Cabernet wines, the Redman family can trace its heritage of Coonawarra viticulture to forty acres purchased by Bill Redman in 1908. A consistent effort with every vintage release, Redman defines the timeless Coonawarra Cabernet style, rich ripe tannin and excellent varietal berry fruit characters are the foundation, the finish is long in flavour, firm and dry.

Redman, red estate, red soil and red wine, the four Rs which comprise the family coat of arms, working in harmony to produce the famous Cabernet of Coonawarra. The Redmans have been actively involved in all major developments involving Coonawarra viticulture since establishment in 1908. After joint ventures with Penfolds and Mildara, Dr Lindeman purchased the Redman property and renamed it Rouge Homme. Owen Redman ultimately returned to the family estate, eventually acquiring the land on which the winery stands today.

The Redgate property is one of the southernmost vineyards on Margaret River, situated just three kilometres from the Indian Ocean. The family owned and operated wineworks at Redgate create impressive red wines endowed with the characteristic nose and flavour of Margaret River. Bin 588 was first made in 1988 and has always included harvests of grapes sourced from good local vineyards. This stylish cepage of Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon is medium bodied with a delicious burst of of ripe dark fruits, plum and blackberry aromas.

Kangaroo Ground in the lower Yarra Valley has seen the establishment of a number of new vineyards due to some idyllic growing conditions. Enter Redbox, a fragrant Pinot Noir in vibrant new world styling, with a generous but elegant, food oriented, mouthfilling palate.

Planted to a property named Wildfell in 1851 by the original proprietor, Redbox estate's vines are gingerly husbanded to yield the most essential examples of Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Redbox make the most of an affinity between this slow ripening noble varietal and the condusive climes of Yarra Valley. Re established in 1986, the innovative approach to viticulture and highly skilled efforts of the team translate into a wine of luscious berry fruit characters, supportive oak and mouthfilling tannins, in a graceful contemporary styling.

Redbox have claimed a multitude of medals and awards over a brief succession of impressive vintages, not bad for a recent starter. Pericoota is a gentle Shiraz wine offering complexity, harmony and supportive oak, drinking beautifully while young, with the capacity to age gracefully.

Long Paddock sources the best possible Shiraz from some of the finest Victorian vineyards, but relies on a few unique sites to form the backbone of fruit, vines of superior quality which have been supplying Redbank since inaugural vintage. Parcels from warmer climes conrtibute edifying plum and cherry flavours, cooler climes yield fruit that's deeply saturated in colour, bristling with piquant spice notes, framed by firm and supportive, mouth filling tannins.

Redbank retain some of the best vineyards in the higher altitudes of Victoria's bountiful northern winegrowing districts. Sites planted to cooler climes offer slower ripening conditions which translate into the full development of flavours. Long Paddock is fashioned from the finest harvests of Merlot on offer, the finely grained tannins, gentle palate and aromatic qualities can make any further ageing unnecessary. A forward drinking wine, redolent with plum and cherry characters and like all good Merlot, scrumptuous with fine food.

Red Knot has been crafted to give wine lovers what they want, a delicious quaff at any time of day or night. Fashioned from choice Shiraz grown to the award winning Davey Family Vineyard, with select parcels from good friends and neighbouring growers around McLaren Vale. Shingleback's vines are closely managed to ripen grapes fully, developing intense fruit flavours for a wine of splendid balance between natural acidity and fine fruit, supple tannins and fragrant oak. Match Red Knot with lambf, gourmet snags or an eggplant and spinach lasagna.

By one of McLaren Vale's most highly decorated teams, the palate of this generously proportioned wine is bursting with ripe black and blue berry Cabernet flavours that are so rich, they're positively decadent. Every vineyard tells a story, Shingleback's is about yielding the finest fruit to be fashioned into fully accessible wines that put a smile on your dial. For those who love their Cabernet every single day of the week, a long and lingering fruit filled palate that resolves on a firm dry tannin finish makes Red Knot a no brainer in McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon.

Pinot Noir has been the shining star of Mornington for decades. Red Hill take the pick of crop, assembling a variety of clones from several choice vineyards across the finer precincts of the Peninsula. Red Hill drinks very well at a young age and is best consumed quite soon after release, if you prefer the vibrant cherry, plum and strawberry fruit flavours in their prime. Red Hill also walks on the wilder side of Pinot Noir, treat her to a spell of breathing to develop the funky country game characters and piquant pastoral savouryness.

Heathcote specialist Peter Dredge has worked alongside Hoddle Creek Estate's Franco d'Anna and McLaren Vale's eminent Ben Riggs at nearby Sanguine Estate. Planted in 1971 to ancient Cambrian soils, the unirrigated single parcel of mature vines at Red Edge yields a scant one to 1½ tons of fruit per acre. A multi layered, rich and powerful palate, yet elegant with fine grained tannins, splendid structure and superior length. Match your Red Edge to a juicy scotch fillet steak or trussed and smartly dressed game.

An exciting cépage which may vary slightly from year to year, mostly a Shiraz wine sourced off younger Heathcote plantings, a tenth of Mourverdre and small percentage of Riesling. Mourverdre contributes plummy fruit to the nose, juciness and flesh to the palate. Riesling adds an aromatic lift within a slightly spiced floral perfume. An engagingly aromatic, satisfyingly proportioned and generously flavoured wine, to match with rare breast of duck dressed in rhubarb or charred scotch filet under mushroom jus.

Yabby Lake are well positioned to produce the most generously proportioned styles of new world Pinot Noir, vinified to traditional Burgundian techniques. Significant resources have been devoted to developing Yabby Lake's vineyard to the highest possible standard. An assemblage of Pinot Noir clones MV6 and G5V15, clones 114, Pommard and Abel for structure and complexity, the inclusion of a parcel clone 115 imparts layers of elegance, rich fragrant aromas and a long silky palate.

The Yabby Lake team know about things Heathcote Shiraz. Red Claw is clearly a very special wine, crafted from hand picked parcels of the most intensely flavoured fruit, harvested off the prestigious Heathcote Estate Vineyard. A stately construct of Shiraz, layered with viscous black berry fruit flavours and sheathed in carriage of stealthy terra rosa tannins.

Rewind the tape twenty years and Rawley Power's voice was being pounded into the ear drums of punk music fans throughout the land. Rawley's strained voice as front man for punk band Anti-Power was also known to true blue fans as the Raw Power Show, as Rawley's voice took hold over the garage crowds whipping them into the original mosh. Twenty plus years on, a different life in full swing as advocate of red flowing liquid. A different life with the same my way approach. Ramos Pinto are part of the eminent Roederer group of internationally renowned wineries. Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional are the uniquely Iberian grape varietals in Duas Quintas Classic. A highly decorated red wine that's claimed prestigious awards at the distinguished III Concurso International de Vinhos Cidade do Porto and USA World Wine Championships. Have it with your favourite faire, Duas Quintas is wonderfully suited to meat and game recipes, especially those with garlic.

Rahona Valley wines are all produced from a single four acre property within a small valley at Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula. The growing conditions are excellent, deep, well drained red basalt soils nurture the vines, as the cool maritime climes lead to a long, slow ripening period. Oak barrels impart a very important part of the flavour profile, one of the most significant costs each year. The annual visit of the cooper, a few months before harvest, is one of those pivotal occasions that go a long way to setting the style of wine each and every vintage.

A 19th century grazier with a sheep station overrun by rabbits, Mr. MacGregor tried unsuccessfully to reduce the population by catching them and turning them into pies. The locals took up the challenge but the plague continued. Eventually MacGregor decided to plant vines and make a decent Pinot Noir to go with all the pie he was eating. Rabbit Ranch is made to a very soft, fruit forward, low tannin style. Beautifully aromatic, textural with the characteristic Otago richness, clean and endowed with exquisite balance, a wine to be savoured and supped.

Ra Nui stands for Marlborough, the realization of the finest Pinot Noir from a very special terroir. An intense construct, crafted for serious Pinotphiles, Ra Nui reflects choice selection of clone and rootstock, in combination with low yields, sensible oak and rich lees treatments. Grapes are principally sourced from the Ra Nui Summer Valley Vineyard, situated near the town of Blenheim under the lee of Wither Hills. A small, devotedly managed site, planted to Dijon clones 115 and 667, 777 and Abel, yielding low harvests of small berries with concentrated flavours.

Bendigo is a slightly newer viticultural precinct of Central Otago, the largest quartz reef deposit in New Zealand runs directly beneath the vines. Established to industrial mining in 1862, the historic town of Bendigo is gaining new renown, this time for the most cogent and compelling vintages of Central Otago Pinot Noir. Selective pickings, whole bunches and a gentle hand plunge of wild yeast ferments, pressed into French oak barriques for malolactic and age. A generously proportioned and effusive Central Otago Pinot Noir of great texture, substance and complexity.

Central Otago produces the new world's weightiest and most distinctive Pinot Noir. The vinification techniques at Quartz Reef however are very much in keeping with the traditional practices of the old world. Pinot Noir clones 10/5 and 5, 115 and 667, 777 and Abel are all hand picked off a closely planted, steep slope at Bendigo, a small percentage of whole bunches are retained. A week of cold soak and gentle hand plunging of indigenous yeast ferments are followed by maceration and pressing into a selection of seasoned and new French oak barrels for malolactic and maturation.

From one of the Coonawarra's most illustrious viticulturalists, Punters Corner is home to the 2000 Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy. The wines are compellingy Coonawarra in style, vinified from the pick of the estate's crop every year. A venerable source of fruit for some of Australia's most prestigious wines, the top ten percent is held back and reserved for bottling under the Punters Corner label.

Selection of site has long been a priority at Prunotto. The estate commands an endowment of the finest vineyards in Piedmont, while being amply resourced to acquire nothing but the most auspicious properties in the land. The vines at Occhetti are treated to a standard of viticulture without peer in all Alba, the quality of fruit speaks for itself, articulating the influence of local peach orchards and the extravagant white truffles of the region. A seamless wine of layered sweet and savoury complexity, raspberry richness and subtley piquant olive anise garniture.

Single vineyard Nebbiolo from the superior Occhetti property near the Commune of Monteu Roero in Alba. Prunotto selected this very special site on the basis of terroir, its fortuitious south facing slopes and gravelled clay soils creating a mesoclime of remarkable affinity for Nebbiolo. Occhetti DAlba affords enthusiasts an approachable experience into the uncompromising excellence of Prunotto. A fruit filled wine of rose petal and raspberry characters, treated to a term of age in a mix of seasoned 500 Litre barrels and larger format 5000 Litre oak vats.

The key to the enduring succes of Prunotto has been selection of site, the vineyards themselves have always been central to the quality of wine. Dolcetto means little sweetie, named for its fruitiness, it makes a structured wine of dimensional savouryness and judicious tannins when grown to the bucolic surrounds of Alba. An assemblage of fruit picked off elite vineyards in the ancient townships of Treiso and Barbaresco, Alba and Monforte d’Alba, a mouth filling red wine with substantive palate to match mushroom and meatball recipes, grills or braised game.

From parcels of Nebbiolo grapes, picked off vines planted to an auspicious terroir of mineral rich, calcareous clays, on the Bric Turot property at Barbaresco. The wines of Alfred Prunotto can trace their origins to the commune at Ai Vini delle Langhe, Alfredo eventually acquired sole proprietorship of the cooperative in 1922 and established a brand which would utimately merit consolidation with the illustrious Marchesi Antinori. Bric Turot yields a Nebbiolo of extraordinary richness, memorable and multi dimensional, a Barbaresco of profound seamlessness and length.

Single vineyard Barbaresco from a fully mature, five hectare site, acquired by Prunotto in 1996. Vines are planted to southern exposures near the very heart of the tiny region, to a confluence of propitious altitudes and mesoclimes, they yield a statuesque wine of remarkable power and sound structure, exquisite aromaticness and bucolic grace. The quality of fruit and standards of vinification at Prunetto are without peer. Choice harvests of Nebbiolo grapes are treated to an extended maceration and term of age in large 5000L format oak.

At just three square miles, Barbaresco is one of the most exclusive Denominazione di origine in all Italia. Such was the reputation for excellence established by Alfred Prunotto in 1922, the eminent Marchesi Antinori acquired the brand in the 1990s and lavished the estate with an endowment of the most invaluable viticultural assets. Bric Turot is a superior site within the elite DOCG of Barbaresco, the Antinori family take a very personal interest in the management of the property and husbanding of vines. An intense wine of magnificent structure and enigmatic seamlessness.

Barolo may be one of the world's most celebrated winemaking regions but it is also one of the smallest, just over two square miles supporting a population of a few hundred locals. There are several communes but they all must adhere to the strict DOCG regulations, exclusively Nebbiolo must be harvested off sunny hillsides, to the exclusion of valley floors and flat terrains, shaded sites or northern exposures. Prunotto make the most of their access to exceptional vineyards, collating parcels from the best growers in the townships of Monforte, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga.

With a provenance that's second to none, choice parcels of Barbera are picked off splendid vineyards in the illustrious communes of Treiso and Barbaresco, Alba and Barolo, planted to auspicious, mineral rich marine fossil, alluvial clay soils. All grapes are destemmed and treated to a traditional vinification followed by malolactic and term of age in large format oak vats, to integrate the tannins without masking the elegance of fruit. The Barbera of Piedmont makes an outstanding food wine, its fullness of palate and stylish savouryness makes it a match with the bravest fare.

The noble house of Prunotto began life as Ai Vini delle Langhe, founded in the Barolo township of Serralunga, re established under Alfredo Prunotto, they now retain an inventory of the finest vineyards in neighbouring Brabaresco. A collation of harvests Nebbiolo, from the townships of Treiso and Barbaresco, are treated to a fortnight on skins, for optimal extraction of tannins under warmer temperatures in the traditional Barbaresco way, followed by a course of maturation in a mix of seasoned, larger format oak, mellowing the fruit and taming the tannins.

Provenance was established with the objective of making great wines that exhibit the quality of fruit and terroir from choice vineyards in and around the Geelong viticultural precinct. The most pristine grapes are assembled from the Provenance Moorabool Valley property. A component of the finest Bellarine Pinot Noir from the proven Grassy Point site is included. Parcels from the eminent Pierrepoint vineyard at Henty adds another dimension. A portion from the Sinclair property near Ballarat, grown to ancient ordovician soils at 500 metres contributes wonderful bright fruit.
