Exceptional Langtons Classification. Moss Wood includes portions of Cabernet Franc for its cherry and Petit Verdot which contributes bright berry perfumes and a firmer structure. Moss Wood's Cabernet Franc shows less leafiness than Cabernet and can be picked earlier, when the fruit shows ripe berry flavour, similar to summer pudding. Further ripening tends to produce dark plum notes. While still slightly green, Moss Wood's Petit Verdot has an herbal note, more coriander than leaf, an ethereal, aromatic lift, redolent of violets and sweet berries.

A base of Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller components of Petit Verdot, Malbec or Merlot. As the vineyards that supply these grapes have matured, the yields of the different varieties have varied and so the percentages in the finished wines have also changed. The makeup of the vineyard is important in resolving two key issues, seasonal variations, dictated by mother nature and style, controlled by winemakers. Cabernet produces the best wine, but the other Bordeaux varietals can play an important role in maximising quality of the finished wine.

Moss Wood were destined from their very genesis to be one of the new world's great marques in Cabernet Sauvignon. Excellence is the estate's raison d'etre, all work amongst the vines and throughout the vinification demands a no expense spared production, aimed at crafting the most statuesque vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon. Malbec contributes rich red currant notes, Petit Verdot adds confection, Merlot is all cherries and summer pudding. Luxury oak in support with toasty, coffee bean flavours and vanilla tannin for gentle, flattering grip.

One of the more profound Margaret River constructs of the complex Bordeaux blend, a cépage of Merlot and Malbec, Cabernet and Petit Verdot. Combines the blueberry and blackcurrant fruit characters of Yallingup with the perfumed violets and toothsome red currants of Cowaramup, generous fruit depth with soft oak influence, in fine support with a toasty, spiced background. Full body and sweet round flavours of cherry and other dark fruits, as well as melted chocolate, make Amy instantly appealing and oh so easy to enjoy.

The first Morris of Rutherglen Durif vines were planted in the 1920s but it was not until the fourth generation that Charles Henry Morris, Mick to his mates, released a pure Durif varietal wine under the pseudonym Claret in 1954. Mick was the first family vigneron to be university educated, his legacy endures as Morris of Rutherglen’s flagship red, a true icon of Australian wine. Brimming with dark blue fruit and soft gentle spice, CHM is rich and full bodied, seductive with concentrated berry flavours over plush oak tannins and lingering finish.

George Francis Morris established a small vineyard in 1859, just two miles east of the current Mia Mia Morris family wineworks. A Rutherglen specialty, Durif is a characteristically big wine, originally imported from Hermitage by Victoria's legendary viticulturalist Francois de Castella circa 1908. A totally edifying drink to acccompany ripe, tasty cheeses or char flamed grills, heaven sent for rare sirloin, the perfect match to venison and gourmandise game.

Planted to original rootstock on the gently undulating plains of Padthaway Valley, the Morambro Creek vines are grown to rich Terra Rosa soils, enjoying excellent sun exposure, yielding grapes with the most concentrated flavours, deep colour and generous tannins. Heat generated during the day is moderated each evening by coastal winds that cool the vines, achieving an extended vintage. This extended time on the vine allows for grape tannins and seed to fully ripen before harvest, translating into wines that are rich and intense yet supple on the palate.

Lock & Key have embarrassed some pretty big names at conspicuous national wine show competitions, establishing Hilltops as the rising star growing appellation for Australian Shiraz. A rich, totally mouth filling wine with a deep, dark colour that's characteristic of Hilltops Shiraz. The palate is intense and concentrated, with loads of ripe dark berry, pepper and spiced cherry plum flavours.

Moppity have claimed many conspicuous accolades at national wine shows and international competitions. Carlo Monichino grew up among the illustrious old vineyards of Asti in Piedmonte. He migrated to Australia 1949 and planted his own rootstock at Katunga in the Goulburn Valley 1962. Carlo's fascination with the opulent styles of Rutherglen delivered him the prestigious Chris Killeen Trophy and a precious block of the most exquisite Durif vines. Treated to the wonderful old world regimens of hand plunging and open ferments, Monichino age their Durif in nothing but the finest, exclusively new French and American oak for a luxurious eighteen months.

Shiraz was one of the first varieties planted by Carlo Monichino in the 1960s, he recognized the suitability of Goulburn Valley for viticulture and set out to make wines as he did, while growing up amongst the undulating vineyards of Italy's Piemonte. Monichino remains a largely family run operation, neighbours and the extended relations all join in at vintage. A splendid Shiraz, crafted exclusively from estate grown fruit and treated to an extended maturation, for a thoroughly charming wine of engaging complexity and exquisite balance.
