The Thorn-Clarke family can be proud of a long history, growing the Barossa's finest Chardonnay, the best batches are retained for their own labels. Some of Australia's most influential winemakers have passed through the Saltram cellar door during the estate's 150 years. Three generations of Salters made wine until 1937, the Dolans of Pepperjack fame took over the reins in the 1950s, producing many of Saltram's most memorable vintages. Mamre Brook is the original Salter family homestead, built in 1844 near the village of Angaston. Shiraz is sourced from mature Barossa vineyards and fashioned into the enduring Mamre Brook style of penetrating brambleberry flavours over fragrant vanilla oak.

William Salter was one of the first to purchase land in the Barossa. He built a stone house for his family naming it Mamre Brook, after Abrahams spiritual home in the book of Genesis. Mamre Brook House still stands today as the spiritual home of Saltram. Three generations of Salters continued to make wine until 1937. Today it is the home of Pepperjack and the domain of Jimmy Watson winemaker Nigel Dolan. Mamre Brook is an exciting Shiraz wine showing dense colour, excellent varietal character, finesse and soft, ripe tannins.

Mamre Brook remain one of Australia's most dearly loved family of wines. Saltram draws Riesling from its vineyard just next to the cellar door, as well as from good growers throughout the more eminent viticultural precincts of Barossa Valley. Batches from highly specialized and distinguished Riesling sites atop the cooler aspects of Eden Valley are happily wedded to parcels gathered from the warmer climes across the valley floor. A well rounded Riesling wine of lovely floral and citrus characters, gentle structure and racy natural acidity.

Pewsey Vale once succumbed to the fate of so many of Australia's great, foundation vineyards, falling into disuse as a result of severe economic hardship. The site's potential was rediscovered at a time when only the history books recorded any existence of the original plantings. The long ripening periods at such altitudes encourage rich flavour profiles, known today as classic Pewsey Vale. The winemaking is simple and natural, hand picked grapes are whole bunch pressed directly to older oak barrels for ferment by indigenous yeasts.

Inspired by elder bottles of Pewsey Vale Riesling, Yalumba resolved to make an early harvest wine with lower alcohol, a fine balance of natural acids and idyllic levels of residual sugar. Prima is made from grapes picked three to four weeks before the rest of the vineyard. Chosen for their fine citrus flavours, grapes are carefully selected when their natural sugar levels are near 10° Baume. The wine is finished to a semi dry style which retains some of the fruit in balance with chalky mineral acidity, exhibiting purity of style, as it evoves layers of toastyness and spice.

For over 150 years Pewsey Vale Vineyard has produced aromatic white wines of exceptional style, varietal flavour and consistency. A reputation for success with these wines and a location high in Eden Valley inspired the planting of Gewürztraminer. Pewsey Vale captures the essence of cool climate fruit with delightful fragrances and a long pristine palate.

The quality of fruit from Pewsey Vale Vineyard, higher up the contours of Eden Valley, is a reflection of altitude and low fertility, grey, sandy loam soils which prolong ripening late into the cool autumn. This longer season develops unique flavour profiles which are classic Pewsey Vale. Contours is Pewsey Vale's flagship, held back for five years under the estate cellars. The grapes themselves are picked from the oldest vines, established to contoured rows in 1962. This exceptional wine already shows signs of bottle development immediately upon release.

The Pewsey Vale property was first planted to Riesling by Joseph Gilbert in 1847. The site was later purchased by well known grazier Geoff Angas Parsons, who in 1961 invited his friend Wyndham Hill Smith to jointly develop the historic vineyard. They believed the site could produce delicate Rieslings in the Germanic style. High in the Eden Valley's low fertility, grey and sandy loam soils, a prolonged ripening late into the cool autumn season develops recognizably consistent flavour profiles, today known as classic Pewsey Vale.

Peter Lehmann is an international sensation at Riesling, having been declared Best Riesling in the World no fewer than five times at the London International. Named for Andrew Wigan who has been the maker of every Riesling bottled under the Peter Lehmann label since inaugural vintage.

Eden Valley is home to Australia's greatest Riesling, first planted to the shallow, rocky soils of the higher Barossa ranges in the early 1850s. Pinot Gris has found the perfect idyll within the cool climes and elevated aspects of Valley Eden. The long slow ripening produces an exceptionally well balanced style of Pinot Gris with heightened acidity and brisk natural fruit characters. An aromatic, textural white wine that's so highly engaging, while serving as a contemporary Australian take on the established French style. H&V's mouthfilling and complex, layered palate makes it a cinch with food and a fine match to all cosmopolitan faire.

A splendid high altitude effort, expressing fully the uniqueness of Chardonnay grown to the lofty terroirs of Eden Valley. Grapes are sourced from choice independent grower vineyards, tucked way up high in the eastern Barossa ranges. Formulated as part of the evolving Penfold white wine program, Bin 51 captures the very essence of the Eden Valley Riesling style. The region's high altitude and cool climate produces wines of great complexity and capacity for development. Bin 51 is bottled early to retain freshness, the definitive bone dry Riesling style with bright natural acidity, clear fruit aromas and wonderfully pristine, mouthfilling flavours.

Patriarch is sourced off a two hectare block planted in 1994, grown to sandy acidic soils over quartz bed rock. There's little water holding capacity and the vines fight for their moisture, encouraging yields of the most intensely flavoured berries. Grapes are all selectively hand sorted and vinified for a fortnight before an extended term of five weeks maceration, before being filled to the luxury of completely new French oak barriques for two years. A velvety smooth wine of refined tannin structure, intense dark fruit characters and the majesty of new oak.

Marble Hill was a stately old manor in the Adelaide Hills, the colonial Governor’s summer residence. Planted to a unique clone of Burgundy Chardonuet in the 1860s, the ancient vines came to the attention of the legendery David Wynn, who removed cuttings back to Mountadam, the oldest cool climate Chardonnay vines on the continent. The original stocks in Burgundy were wiped out by phylloxera and Marble Hill was destroyed by fire in the 1950s. There truly is no Chardonnay in the world like Marble Hill.

A feast of fruit in rich Medoc styling, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot for measure, treated to a fortnight of ferments and several weeks of maceration for structure and complexity, followed by eighteen months in the finest, new French oak barriques. The poise and refinement of high Eden Valley fruit is at the core of this opulent accord, black currants and fleshy black plum, varietal capsicum and herbaceousness over the warmth of delicately perfumed cedar oak. From the best parcels of fruit grown to the High Eden Ridge Estate vineyard, these are the earliest plantings of Chardonnay in South Austraia and some of the oldest in the country. The family Wynn were enthused about the potential of a very special site to produce wines of exceptional elegance and structure. They established vines at 550 metres above sea level in 1968, a place of quartz rich soils over weathered Schist bedrock, within the loftiest aspects of Valley Eden, It remains to this day, the highest productive vineyard in South Australia. Riesling grows magnificently here, the chilly climes and challenging terrains yield harvests of the most extraordinary fruit, lemony and calico, mineral and jasmine florals, a wine of amazing persistence.

Established 1972, with a view to being one of the nation's pre eminent Chardonnay specialists, Mountadam was founded by the great David Wynn, one of the most significant contributors to the Australian wine industry and an important part of the Mountadam story. Mountadam today enjoy extensive resources for the production of Chardonnay through varied clones, ages and aspects. Named for the surrounding copses of native gum, Wattle Brae was identified in 1969 as a site uncannily similar to the delicate Riesling's native home along the precipitous slopes of the Mosel and River Rhine.

An assemblage of four vineyard sites, chosen for their unique capacity to construct a wine that is so much greater than the sum of parts. For twenty years, Kellermeister have been perfecting the Chardonnay, fashioned to be a chaste wine from exclusively free run juices. John Duval knows about super premium Shiraz wines. He apprenticed under Max Schubert, his family supplied fruit and vines to Penfolds, and he was the chief winemaker behind the mighty Grange from 1986 to 2002. John Duval's aim with Eligo is to produce an elegant expression of Barossa Shiraz, a wine with restrained power, rich texture and palate length. It represents the best of his vineyard pick from 2005, a vintage which has been rated as excellent, coming off some favourable weather conditions and good vine balance.

John Duval is one of the world's best known winemakers, heir to a distinguished family tradition of Shiraz growing which spans four generations. As a child he grew up amongst the vines and handled fruit that was earmarked for the great Penfold flagships, he worked alonside Max Schubert and spent sixteen years as Penfolds chief. Eligo is crafted to be a transcendent expression of Shiraz. A wine of restrained power, rich in texture and palate length, Eligo represents the best of vintage, sourced from excellent old vineyards in the Barossa and Eden Valleys.

Steingarten is flagship Australian Riesling, representing the very best on offer from the pick of Jacobs Creek vineyards. In 1962, Orlando Wines established the Steingarten site on a steep east facing rocky outcrop running along the western edge of the Barossa ranges, less than two kilometres from founder Johann Gramp's original property. Named in honour of this iconic vineyard, Steingarten is vinified from a small number of hand selected cool climate Riesling blocks situated in the higher altitude ranges of Eden and Barossa Valleys.

James Irvine is a name well known in the Australian wine industry, he worked for the most distinguished brands and his antecedents established Great Western. Irvine first became enthused by the exquisite quality of Eden Valley fruit when he was a buyer for Thomas Hardy & Sons. His inspiration brought him to a superlative parcel of Zinfandel vine, a place of challenging aspects and slow ripening climes. Distinctive for its dark olive palate and black cherry nose, a well structured Zinfandel in fully animate styling, rounded and balanced with a lithely spiced finish.

For quite some time, Jim Irvine pondered whether it would be practicable to make a splendid Merlot wine available at an entry pricepoint. It came down to the wine industry press to convince Irvine that the timing was right to release a Merlot which showed what the flagship Irvine estate wines were really all about. Springhill is made from grapes which are ripened longer than usual, accentuating depth of flavour, while adding more fruit. All this brings about the excellent, soft but full bodied texture and mouthfeel, advancing an argument for the hegemony of Merlot.

Why Meslier? Within the region of Champagne Meslier, or Petite Meslier as it is otherwise known, the Meslier grape is used, albeit in small quantities. Prized for it's acidity it gives the sparkling wine a vivaciousness synonymous with the style. Not only does Meslier bring acidity, but also vinosity and delightful light florals to both bouquet and taste. Irvine decided to tirage Meslier completely on its own for a number of reasons, but primarily to find out exactly what the grape could offer when ripened fully and fashioned into a pure Methode Traditionelle.
