One of the oldest winemaking firms in the world, Antinori first commenced production at Tuscany and Florence circa 1385. The majority of Antinori vineyards are located in Chianti Classico. With the passage of the 1984 DOCG laws, Chianti Classico grapes became so complex and rich, that they needed more ageing than the fresh and fruit driven Santa Cristina could bear, to maintain its character and style. Santa Cristina moved away from the Chianti Classico designation, by including components of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah to the firmness of Sangiovese.

In the seventeenth century it was owned by a branch of the Medici family, who named it Fonte dei Medici. Acquired by the Antinoris in the mid 1800s, it is now source to one of the most historically significant wines in Chiant Classico.

One of the oldest winemaking firms in the world, Antinori first commenced producing wines in and around Tuscany and around Florence in 1385. They acquired the prestigious Badia di Passignano vineyards in 1987. The estate Abbey was once home to the founder of the Vallombrosano order and is still owned by the monks, although Antinori make shrewd use of the beautiful cellars. Antinori have since led the resurgence of interest in the elegant Sangiovese of Chianti Classico and contributed significantly to the broader renaissance of Italian wines.

The ancient Quelltaler property has endured a multitude of trials and tribulations throughout a century and a half of viticulture. Since the relaunch of Quelltaler as Annie's Lane, there has been nothing but universal praise for what is now considered to be one of Australia's finest and consistently satisfying range of table wines. A little over half of the grapes are sourced from the historic Quelltaler vineyards at Watervale, the balance being from a fraternity of Clare Valleys growers who have been supplying the historic wineworks for generations.

While she was delivering lunches to workers who were pruning vines one winter, Annie Wayman's horse drawn cart struck difficulty in negotiating the muddy track back to her cottage. From that day on, the track has been affectionately known as Annie's Lane. Quelltaler Watervale is harvested from vineyards bordering the famous Annie's Lane, crafted to a fine balance between the richness of Shiraz and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon.
